We had Bodee's surgery follow-up appointment today at Duke. He weighed in at 10 lbs 8 oz and is 22.5 inches long. Doc said he looked great and gave me a few tips as to how we can help Bodee poop more often than every 5 days. We have done Apple, Pear and even Prune juice with no success in moving things along :). Karo Syrup is next on the list of things to try...hmmm, never heard that one. Anyway, he also took a look at Bodee's inguinal hernia and decided it would be best to go ahead and have it repaired. It appears to have gotten bigger to us and he agrees that it will continue to get bigger with a baby Bodee's age. Soooo, Bodee has his surgery set for the 28th of January to have it repaired. They want him to stay overnight to monitor his breathing because of his CDH but don't foresee there being any issues. It would only be a precautionary thing and we are 100% in favor of taking all precautionary measures :). I feel so bad for the little guy and putting him through something else just breaks my heart. This is a common thing, however, and should be little drama and little pain for him. (says a doctor who didn't just go through 21 days in the ICN for CDH drama...)
He truly is such a great baby. He is quite mellow (unlike another little girl we know) and is content most of the time just sitting and looking around. When he is tired, hungry or gassy we hear about it...but other than that, he doesn't have much to say. He is getting stronger every day and is holding his head up on his own, with minimal bobbing :). He smiles a cute little smile that we have yet to be able to capture on camera. It's mostly a one sided smirky smile but it is absolutely adorable. We are working on getting some pictures. Lets see, what else is new. I have moved him into his crib in his own room because he makes so many little noises in the night that it kept Mark and I awake even more than we already are with the feedings. I am much less cranky when I actually have to get out of bed to feed him...rather than just reaching over, half asleep still, and picking him up out of his cradle. I find that I enjoy feeding times more because I am awake and can talk to my little man. He doesn't seem to care either way, however, and normally just eats and passes right back out. He will be 8 weeks on Sunday and we can't believe he has already been home for 5 weeks. It's a whole new world having two little ones but Dakota has been a great help and other than the sleep issue, we haven't even skipped a beat.
Here is a picture of Dakota and Bodee in their new pj's that Aunt Moe, Uncle Chris and the rest of their clan sent for them. You can tell by Dakota's hair that she slept really good in them ;)
Mom: "Dakota, what are you doing in there?"
Dakota: "I am teaching Bodee how to cut with scissors!"
To which I came around the corner QUICKLY to find this...too cute!

Glad all seems to be going well. I hate to hear he'll have to undergo another surgery but he's a trooper and I'm sure he'll be recovered and back to his little self again.
Why do we always miss y'all when you are in Durham?
Hope to catch y'all soon!
I will be thinking of lil Bodee during his surgery. I loved the photos!

we cant wait to see more photos.
BTW I dared Shane to do the hairdo thing for a day. he said he would. i will have to post the pic when he does.
hugs,
I love the picture of Dakota teaching and Bodee looks so chunky. I normally see him sleeping. Hearing you brag about him makes me so excited for mine!
Breaks my heart to think of another surgery....but I'm glad they are willing to fix the problem now, rather than waiting...I think it would be more traumatic for him the older he gets.
Love you guys, you're in our prayers always!
